Old Prieur Street project, 2020

Kitchen Remedy Exchange, 2020, is an oral history project commissioned by artist Willie Birch for his expansive Old Prieur Street Community Garden Project, in New Orleans’s 7th Ward. I conducted interviews with neighbors of the garden, nearby congregants of Beecher Memorial United Church of Christ and members of Beecher Memorial UCC Quilt Group. The Old Prieur Street Community Memory Garden, 2019 is a collaboration with Willie Birch and Youth Empowerment Project (YEP), N.O. honoring family members of participants in Kitchen Remedy Exchange. Plaques in their memory were installed inside the garden, underscoring important contributions by these individuals to the city and the sacred role this historic New Orleans neighborhood has played, both locally and beyond.

Memory Project, 2012- 2013

Memory Project began in Łódź, Poland, 2012 to commemorate Anne Levy’s return to her birthplace for the first time since 1945. Originally co-organized with Łódz based activist and writer Marta Madejska, Memory Project is an art driven social experiment based on one of Levy’s pre-war childhood memories. This memory was shared with Polish visual artists, a choreographer and a filmmaker as a prompt, to explore themes of collective trauma they share with Anne Levy (my mother) in that historical place. In 2013 Memory Project: Phase 2 traveled to New Orleans, another historical city that has experienced its own significant traumas— connecting Anne Levy’s past and present. Local artists participated, using New Orleans as their backdrop.

Off The Hook, 2008

collaboration with Artist Sharon Jacques; Prospect 1: Satellite Site

Sharon Jacques and I brought the sounds of children back to neighborhoods where schools were closed. We documented each officially closed public school in New Orleans and recorded classroom activities at two re-opened New Orleans schools, created a sound collage from these recordings and played the sound collage of living schools so the residents in effected neighborhoods could reconnect with their missing sounds.
